One Day in the Mountains
Bucharest, situated between the Carpathian Mountains and the Black Sea coast is a good starting base for one-day or weekend trips to both destinations.
The mountains surrounding Predeal ski resort offer beautiful one-day trips in any season.
Either take the "C & I" minivan from the Ritmului station (which leaves every half hour to Brasov) or the train from Gara de Nord and you are in Predeal in about 2 hours.
Climb the main ski slope from Clabucet Sosire chalet up to Clabucet Plecare chalet, then continue on the blue triangle marked path to Garbova cabana. This takes about an hour and a half.
Take the lunch at Garbova cabana, which offers surprinsingly diverse and tasty meals. Then continue your trip to Azuga on the same blue triangle path. This part takes at most two hours.
From Azuga is best to take the train back to Bucharest, as the minivans coming back from Brasov might be crowded.

Note: Both Predeal and Azuga have ski slopes provided with good facilities, Sorica slope in Azuga being recommended for the more advanced skiers.
